For Our Survival
The COVID-19 crisis poses an unprecedented threat to our small businesses. Many of us have had to lay off employees who have been with us for years, are struggling to pay rent, and will likely lose our livelihoods unless our government acts swiftly. Big corporations have so far received the lion’s share of support, but our Main Street economy urgently needs swift and ambitious action to stay afloat.
In order for our small businesses to survive, we are calling for two key measures:
1.For Governor Janet Mills to issue a moratorium on all foreclosures, with rent forgiveness, until this crisis is over. Landlords would be able to seek cash assistance from the government for lost revenue from rental payments during the period of the moratorium.
2.For our congressional delegation to advocate for $1.5 trillion in direct cash grants, not loans, to small businesses, with greatest emphasis on those who need it most to stay afloat.
